Portland, Maine
Jenna Reed
I have a feeling that this will be the first of many Maine posts… my sister recently moved from Washington (state) back to the east coast. While they’re not living in Portland, it is the closest major city to where they now reside. I finally got to spend a day exploring Portland and I can’t wait to explore the city further!
We started off at Bam Bam Bakery. I ate some seriously awesome gluten free baked goodies and brought even more home with me. Sadly, I didn’t photograph a single one of them… but I think that only speaks to how delicious it was!
After that we took a stroll along the waterfront; while we didn’t eat at Portland Lobster Co, I really loved the sign.
When we passed the point of shops and restaurants along the waterfront, we took a left turn and crossed the street into downtown. There were so many great looking restaurants, and I couldn’t believe how many gluten free-friendly options were available for me. There truly wasn’t enough time to try it all!
(I got a kick out of this very profesh bodega sign)
There were so many great pottery shops, and obviously we found plenty of Maine gift shops (lobsters galore!), but most of the goodies I brought home came from an art supply store and a little pet shop.
Lucky had accompanied us on this trip, so of course I had to get him some souvenirs! In Maine we found him a little knit football squeaky toy… to this day it’s one of his favorites! My nephew was absolutely cracking up watching doggo play fetch, too.
The art supply shop looked like it was definitely a staple for some of the University of Southern Maine students… speaking of which, when we got to that side of town, we found some very cool sculptures in the garden surrounding a nearby museum!
Portland felt like one of those small cities where, just when you thought you finished exploring, you somehow stumbled upon another street with more to see!
I really can’t wait to explore the city further. While walking back to the car we passed down two smaller streets that I wish we had time to check out!
Now that my sister is living nearby that area, though, I know we’ll have plenty of time to see more in the future.
