Roadtrippin' : With A Dog

I don’t think I’ve introduced myself; my name is Lucky! I am a three year old chihuahua who is iffy about strangers, loves abnormally long walks for a dog my size, and can frequently be found wearing xxs/xs hoodies because I am always cold. I came from the shelter, so I have a little bit of separation anxiety.

So this isn’t exactly my first road trip, but it’s my first time on a multi-day drive with multiple stops. I went on a trip to visit family in Maine once, and I took the train into the city a couple of times. I wanted to share some of the things that made this trip a bit more enjoyable for me!

  1. We brought my favorite blanket, which made me much more comfortable in the car and while staying in multiple places. I love that blanket, when I’m cold or nervous or sleepy it’s my favorite blanket to burrow under.

  2. My favorite toys and treats! Dad thought it was overkill, but I couldn’t decide which one toy I wanted for the week, so mom packed a bunch of my favorites. She also got me a new lobster toy that I paraded around Portsmouth, NH with it in my mouth!

  3. Taking resting breaks in the room or house helped give me the R&R that I needed to keep going throughout the day. Mom and dad would relax or have a drink and snack and I would nap for a little while.

  4. It was my vacation too, so my pet parents went out of their way to make sure that we hit up plenty of pet friendly spots! I can get a little bit anxious when I’m not with my humans, so it made me feel much better to stay with them. We went to restaurants that let me sit outside with them, parks where we could play, and even a cidery and a brewery where I was allowed to sit inside!

  5. While we were out and about, my parents advocated for me… I get very nervous and defensive around people I don’t know. I know I’m cute and all, but I don’t like it when people try and reach out to me. Mom was very good about telling the other humans that I bite and nip when strangers try and pet me. The less hands coming towards my face, the more comfortable I feel!

All-in-all the trip was pretty fun, but I’m super happy to be home now. I never thought I’d say I missed Charlie or Lucy, my cat sibs, but it was nice to run around with Charlie for a little bit!

If you want to see more of me, I have my own Instagram!
